Kudzu, a plant native to eastern shores, was uprooted and ushered onto big boats headed to the southern American coast. there it would serve first as an agent of aesthetics for personal vanity, and next was subjected to greedy industrial aims. though the plant had existed amongst the people for some time, none understood its power. growing 12 inches per day, kudzu quickly enshrouded the land in its vines. still advancing today beyond borders, companies and individuals wage war against the mammoth vine. they complain that kudzu is smothering their cities, their trees, their home. They claim that Kudzu is the invasive species, the monster.

pueraria Montana did not ask to come here, but its fate was destined. much like my experience as a black american, my ancestors did not ask to come here. nevertheless, our power spreads and overtakes. it is threatening to those who brought us here not so many years ago.
